We innovate to improve people's lives
In 2019, at ROADIS we started on a path where we firmly committed ourselves to innovation, because we want it to be an essential part of our DNA. This has led to a change in the way we do things, and the way we communicate with others.
Through innovation, we want to achieve three main objectives:
On this path of innovation, people remain at the centre of any process; and improving the lives of those around us is also an innovation objective.
In 2020, the work of the innovation department, created the previous year, was consolidated.
In this process, the design of our "Innovation Funnel" has been essential, allowing us to work to make ideas a reality and generate an impact for ROADIS. We are putting into practice the skills of our teams to address challenges; combining options; looking for different solutions together; and we are really listening: because this is how to be creative as a team and innovate.
Moreover, at ROADIS we have created a special working team to encourage the innovation culture: The ROADIS INNOVACTION CREW, which has been renewed with new members and has continued to work hard in 2020. An international group of professionals which shares best practices, lessons learnt and opportunities arising in the market.
In 2020 we celebrated the first edition of the ROADIS Genius Awards
A contest for employees offering solutions to the company’s everyday challenges to be more efficient. Of course, the ideas selected in this competition become part of the "Innovation Funnel", where they are studied and worked on to integrate them into our operations.
We believe in collaborative innovation. For this reason, during 2020 we launched a platform in which we have defined 9 challenges that our teams face to help solve them. This year we received a total of 175 ideas responding to challenges in the following areas:

AND...WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING?
Once the teams have responded to the challenges that the organisation poses to them, and their ideas begin to run through the "innovation funnel", work continues to pursue them. Thus, by summing up the activity of 2020, at ROADIS we can report these numbers, thanks to the work of our teams:
Among the ideas that have concluded the implementation stage...
Since mid-2020, the space on the back of VIABAHÍA toll tickets has been used to provide relevant information to the user; we currently include road safety tips. These messages vary according to changes to the international road safety campaign "Your Safety, Our Priority".
At the end of 2020, a smart and integrated fog signalling system was put into operation in CAMS, which considerably improves visibility along the kilometres most affected by adverse weather conditions on the Monterrey-Saltillo highway (Mexico).
In addition, the latest implementation phases include:
A new warning system for highway operators and maintenance teams in the event of possible shortcomings in the safe workplace.
A training programme, based on virtual reality technology, focused on health and safety at work during lane closures.
A collaborative in-house training programme in which different specialists from ROADIS share their knowledge with other professionals and help them to train in specific subjects.
A project to generate renewable energy at our toll booths.
A project to migrate our patrol vehicles from combustion engines to electric vehicles.
An artificial intelligence and vision system to understand the condition of the road assets and prevent accidents during maintenance work.
