OUR FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY

There is only one way to sum up all the work we have done in 2023: we succeeded in creating value in the geographies in which we operate. We contribute to communities to make a valuable tangible and intangible contribution, based on the sustainable practice of our operations.

SUSTAINABILITY IN 2023

We are making great strides to integrate sustainability into the business and aim to be a leader in the infrastructure sector in this area. Therefore, in 2023 we have reviewed our strategy and defined a new Sustainability Master Plan 2023-25, based on materiality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the aim of moving towards a more responsible economic model.

The actions of the Sustainability Master Plan are classified around five vectors, which group together different strategic lines, essential to achieve the integration of sustainability at all levels of the organisation and the business.

We have tools that facilitate the traceability of the impact generated by our sustainable development model, in order to guarantee the exercise of good practices, both within our sector and globally.

These include participation in the Sustainalytics rating, which measures the company's level of risk based on its ESG management. In recognition of the strength of the sustainable practices that make up our business model, we have achieved a very satisfactory ranking globally: second best rated company and leader in the Transport Infrastructure sector.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The ROADIS Sustainability Master Plan 2023-25 contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. Each line of action has been linked to specific SDG targets to highlight both the direct and indirect contribution to the global development agenda.

To more efficiently and effectively advance sustainability integration and maximise our impact, we joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2022, submitting our first progress report in 2023.

    EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

During 2023, 470 people joined the workforce, 45% of whom were women. We continue to incorporate young talent; of the year's new hires, 40% were under the age of 30.

    WE WORK TOWARDS
    A GREENER FUTURE

Our Environmental Policy provides the basis for our strategy to minimise our impact on the environment, ensure legal compliance and manage the risks and opportunities associated with the energy transition.

We analyse climate change risks following the recommendations of the TCFD (Task Force on Climate related Financial Disclosures), addressing both physical and transitional risks in the medium and long term. In 2023 we have conducted, with the support of Zurich Resilience Solutions, a comprehensive analysis to identify and prioritise the most significant climate risks that could impact our operations and assets. Thanks to this work, we can implement proactive mitigation measures, such as improving infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events and implementing environmental monitoring systems to detect early signs of risks.

TRANSITION TO A CARBON NEUTRAL ECONOMY

Taking 2021 emissions as a reference, a Decarbonisation Plan was designed, with reduction targets validated by SBTi in 2023, and with the final objective of achieving Net Zero by 2040.

As for the emissions produced in 2023 for Scopes 1 and 2, these totalled 6,039 t CO2e, with a reduction of 690 t CO2e compared to the previous year in 2022. This significant decrease reflects our ongoing efforts to mitigate our carbon footprint and promote more sustainable practices.

      SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY

      CR & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

In 2023, we have continued to make progress in developing our corporate responsibility strategy.

We are deeply committed to the development of the communities and countries where we operate. We want to add value to the communities where we operate beyond investing in infrastructure or supporting public services, generating a positive social and environmental impact.

Our Community Development Guidelines lay out the areas of priority for all our corporate responsibility initiatives, which help to promote mobility and sustainable development, socio-economic well-being and the protection of natural resources, in keeping with the SDGs.

      • EQUAL EDUCATION
      • ELIMINATION OF THE SOCIAL DIVIDE
      • COMMUNITY WELL-BEING
      • ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
      • CORPORATE COMMITMENT AND VOLUNTEERING

Here are some of the corporate responsibility

        • Cleaning of the Santa Catarina River

We joined the initiative organised by the Cíclica and Red Ambiental NGOs to help improve the environment as part of our commitment to communities. Our team at CAMS took part in removing the solid waste that accumulates in the vicinity of the river as it passes through the municipalities of Monterrey and San Pedro. Thanks to this action, 22.5 tonnes of waste and 773 tyres were collected.

        • Road safety campaigns

We held an awareness day at the Las Vigas (Xalapa) bus stop to warn about the dangers of driving when tired. For this, in addition to information leaflets and a free coffee dispenser, we deployed a virtual game and an activity with blurred vision glasses. .

        • Donations

We started the refurbishment of a primary school in the village of La Rinconada, near CAMS, where many employees live. The computer room was refurbished, painted and refurbished, donating air conditioning equipment and six computers, as well as internet access support.

VIABAHIA collaborates with the Obra Social Irma Dulce to raise funds for the Santo Antonio Educational Centre, which currently houses 900 children and adolescents in vulnerable situations. The funds are raised through the rounding up of payments at toll booths.

          • Saúde na BR

Through this initiative, VIABAHIA offered dental, nutritional, psychological, therapeutic and general clinical care to more than 150 truck drivers, in partnership with the Federal Highway Police, as well as a virtual experience on the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol. This is the 12th edition of an initiative that is part of the "Saúde na BR" programme.

          • VIA Ambiental

VIABAHIA carries out recreational and educational actions with the population of the municipalities adjacent to our roads, considering environmental issues involving water, fauna, flora and solid waste. Through this programme and within the framework of the Semana da Fauna e da Flora, we conducted a session for 500 students aged 4 to 12 in the public schools of Jaguaquara, Poções and Planalto, to raise awareness among children of the importance of biodiversity. In addition, throughout 2023, training sessions were held for VIABAHIA employees on the identification and care of endangered species

As a member of the ACPAC, AEA participated in the awareness campaign "Respeite quem trabalha na estrada", to warn of the dangers to which roadside operations and maintenance teams are subjected in their daily work.
            • Volunteering

Safety is one of our priorities, which is why we take part in activities to raise awareness, this time through education. Our colleagues in the A4, in collaboration with Fundtrafic, held an educational seminar in three schools in Seseña and Valdemoro, where they set up a road safety circuit to recreate city traffic, and a functional diversity circuit to learn about the reality of pedestrians with disabilities

              • KHUSHII

Through the Shikshantra Plus project of the Kinship for Humanitarian Social and Holistic Intervention in India (KHUSHII), we have supported the education of more than 1,800 children across three states by 2023. We helped improve the quality of life of children by introducing them into the education system, reducing the school drop-out rate, providing teachers with the tools they need to do their work, and raising awareness among parents about the importance of supporting their children with their studies.

              • The Hans Foundation

In 2023, we are continuing the Mobile Medical Units (MMU) project with The Hans Foundation (THF) and the State Government of Uttar Pradesh, an initiative to improve healthcare for the inhabitants of 80 towns in the Varanasi district. Thanks to the 4 mobile medical units deployed, more than 32,000 people have already been attended and more than 3,000 information meetings, training sessions and medical check-up days have been held.

              • Real Madrid Foundation & IIMC

We collaborate with the Real Madrid Foundation (RMF) and the Institute for Indian Mother and Child (IIMC), offering sports academies to vulnerable children and instilling values of sport, as well as training coaches/teachers to improve their knowledge of the educational philosophy and methodology. In addition to the training sessions, the 140 minors who participate received a study grant, uniform, school materials and supplemental food during their afternoons at the IIMC.
